Jesup, GA – Wayne Memorial Hospital recently received notice it has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Mammography Imaging Services as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR). 

 

The ACR, headquartered in Virginia, awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of the facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report. The ACR is a national organization with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

 

“Applying for accreditation is a very detailed process,” says WMH Mammography Tech Rita Whitted. “We answer all types of questions about our machine, our quality control measures and quality assurance. We also are required to send in images of various breast tissues as well as submit information on our radiology techs and physicians.”

 

“Accreditation is a clear indication of quality patient care,” said WMH Radiologist Dr. Christopher Hulsey. “The new digital mammography equipment is becoming the new standard in mammography and Wayne Memorial is a very pro-active hospital to already have this equipment. I am impressed with how quickly they received their accreditation, as some facilities do not pass on the first try.”
